Beaujean started his career at Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Broadcasting) in 1986 as a freelancer. Five years later he became music editor in the Art Music Editorial Department where he was also responsible for chamber music productions and concert recordings. In 2008, he was appointed head of the Easy Listening Editorial Department and, one year later, he was also made head of the Art Music Editorial Department. Furthermore, he wrote numerous printed contributions as a music journalist, for instance for the weekly DIE ZEIT.
Beaujean was born in Aachen. He studied German philology, philosophy, music science and history at the University of Bonn.
Since April 2010, Beaujean has been in charge of the editorial department of BR-KLASSIK and deputy to former artistic director Axel Linstädt, who retired in September 2012.
Apart from the artistic direction of BR-KLASSIK, Oswald Beaujean is also senior programme officer of BR-KLASSIK. His contract started on October 1st 2012 and runs until September 30th 2017.
