American-born Ida Bieler has set a standard in the course of her unusual career as a musician of extraordinary scope. Launched into recognition winning international violin competitions on three continents, she since has enjoyed a concert career as soloist and chamber musician in major music capitals and festivals throughout the world.
Ida Bieler’s artistic focus and repertoire, staggering in its extent, stretches from the Baroque to the Avant-Garde. Her critically acclaimed discography has received accolades and awards including the Cannes Classical Award, Echo Klassik Preis, Fono Forum Stern des Monats, Strad Selection and Repertoire 10.
Highly successful as a chamber and ensemble player, Bieler was a member of Germany‘s legendary Melos Quartet, the acclaimed Xyrion Piano Trio, Ensemble Villa Musica, and her newly founded Robert Schumann Chamber Players. One of Europe’s first women concertmasters, she served as leader of Cologne‘s Gürzenich Orchester.
Ida Bieler has been initiator and artistic director of notable festivals and institutions including NRW‘s Rheinische Streicherakademie, the Streicherakademie Ochsenhausen Baden-Württemberg, Yehudi Menuhin‘s Live Music Now, and is presently artistic director of the UNCSA‘s Chrysalis Chamber Music Institute.
One of the most sought-after teachers today, Bieler is professor at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, Germany, guest-professor at the Kunstuniversität Graz, Austria and the North Carolina School of the Arts, USA. She received Germany’s highest educational award, Ideen für die Bildungsrepublik, for her innovative Vivaldi Projekt.
