Juan de Dios Magdaleno, Mexico
Born in Colima, Mexico, in 1984, Juan de Dios Magdaleno has been an active musician since he was ten years old.
He studied violin with Tatiana Zatina and Alessandro Orsso and composition with Anatoly Zatin and Luis Jaime Cortez in Mexico. In parallel, he completed studies in architecture and mathematics.
Studied composition at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Fabio Nieder and Richard Ayres. 2009 Bachelor degree.
Participation in composition master classes and workshops including Helmut Lachenmann, Tristan Murail, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Jarrell, Julio Estrada, James Dillon, Jonathan Harvey, Salvatore Sciarrino, Marco Stroppa, Ivan Fedele, Fabien Lévy, Mathias Spahlinger and Oscar Bianchi.
He has received various awards, scholarships and prizes. a .: "Delta Scholarship" of the Ministry of Education in Holland, "Jóvenes Creadores Fellowship" of CONACULTA / FONCA, awarded by the National Council for Art and Culture, Mexico, 1st Prize at the International Composition Competition Lutoslawski 2008, 2nd Prize at the Mauricio-Kagel- Composition Competition 2010 and 2013, Music Prize of the City of Graz and Joan Guinjoan Prize.
His music has been performed in Mexico, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland, England, Italy, Spain, France and Austria by ensembles and musicians such as Asko | Schoenberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Orchester National de Lorraine, Nouvel Ensemble Modern, Ossia Ensemble, Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes, Jos Zwaanenburg, Ernesto Molinari and Namascae Lemanic Modern Ensemble.
Currently, Juan de Dios Magdaleno continues his studies with Gerd Kühr at the University of Graz as part of a master's program.
