Prof. Lina Maria Åkerlund - Jury Lied 2022

Born and educated in Stockholm/Sweden, Lina Maria Åkerlund completed a Specialized Master in recorder with Clas Pehrsson at The Royal Academy of Music, before pursuing further education at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland. She now lives in Switzerland.

Simultaneously, she studied voice with Kurt Widmer at the Basel Academy of Music, where she graduated with a Master’s in Music Pedagogy, as well as a Specialized Master «cum laude».

Lina Maria Åkerlund was awarded the prestigious Migros grant twice. She was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Opera house Zurich and continued her voice studies with Margreet Honig as well as in various masterclasses.

A busy solo career had her perform a wide range of oratorios, lied, opera, and chamber music with renowned artists and orchestras at venues and festivals all over Europe. Her special affinity and passion for chamber music brought forth collaborations with Jürg Wyttenbach, Heinz Holliger, Patrick Demenga, Matthias Ziegler, Ernesto Molinari, Hans- Heinz Schneeberger, and Johann Sonnleitner, among many others. Her partners for Lied repertoire are Hans Adolfsen and Sebastián Tortosa.

In addition to various recordings, the mezzosoprano performed numerous world premieres.

Throughout her career as a singer, Lina Maria Åkerlund has passionately been teaching voice at different levels. Since 1995 she is a professor of voice at Zurich University of the Arts, where she is also a leading member of the voice faculty. 2008 she was honoured with the “Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching”.

Being a teacher who is sought-after internationally, she is also a demanded expert in competitions, exams in voice and pedagogy, and in academic evaluation processes.

Lina Maria Åkerlund also gives master classes, and lectures at various institutions internationally.
