The quartet was founded in 2007 in Cologne. The four musicians took regular lessons with members of the Cherubini-Quartett. Since 2011 they have been attending the class of the Alban Berg Quartett in Cologne. Additional studies and master classes with Günter Pichler. Prize winners at the “Osaka International Chamber Music Competition“ and at the “International String Quartet Competition Premio Paolo Borciani”.
Erik SCHUMANN, Violin (Germany)
Born in 1982 in Cologne. First lessons in 1986 at Suzuki School in Dusseldorf, from 1991 to 1996 with Annemarie Hoymann, from 1996 to 1998 with Christiane Hutcup and from 1998 to 2011 with Zakhar Bron. Between 1998 and 2001 studies at the University of Music Lübeck and between 2001 and 2011 at the Hochschule für Musik and Tanz Köln. Diplomas in 2009 and 2011. In 2003 master classes with Herman Krebbers, in 2004/2005 with Miriam Fried and in summer 2007 with Pinchas Zukerman. Thiboud prize winner in 2001. In 2003, 2nd prize winner of the “Shlomo Mintz Competition“ and in 2004 Leonard-Bernstein-Award winner. Recordings at German broadcasting stations including NDR, WDR and others.
Ken SCHUMANN, Violin (Germany)
Born in 1986 in Cologne. First lessons in 1990 with Robert Schumann in Cologne, from 1996 to 2009 with Zakhar Bron, from 2009 to 2011 with Thomas Brandis; and in 2011 with the Alban Berg Quartett. Between 1999 and 2009 studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, from 2009 to 2011 at University of Music Lübeck. In 2011 he took his artistic diploma in Lübeck.
Master classes with György Pauk in summer 2005, with Gerhard Schulz in 2010/2011 and with Pinchas Zukerman in 2010. Award winner of the Kulturpreis Pulheim, Förderungspreis Rheinischer Sparkassen. Tour through Italy and Japan. Concerts at Kölner Philharmonie, in Tel Aviv and in Paris. Recordings at broadcasting stations NDR and NHK. In March 2012 performance of Vivaldi concerts together with the Philharmonie Orchester Köln.
Ayako GOTO, Viola (Japan)
Born in 1982 in Japan. First lessons in July 2000 with Matthias Buchholz in Cologne, from 2006 to 2007 with Diemut Poppen. Studies at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. In 2010, concert performances in Shiga, Japan, and in 2011 in Tokyo, Japan.
Mark SCHUMANN, Violoncello (Germany)
Born in 1988 in Cologne. First lessons with Frans Helmerson in Bonn. Between 1999 and 2004 with Emil Klein, between 2004 and 2006 with Hans Christian Schweiker and between 2006 and 2009 with Heinrich Schiff. Studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2007 master classes with David Geringas, in 2008 with Bernard Greenhouse and in 2010 with Gery Hoffmann. Europäischer Kulturpreis. Tour with Slovak Philharmonic and others. Recordings at Deutschlandfunk, BR, WDR and MDR.
