Hooshyar KHAYAM, Iran
Hooshyar Khayam was born in Great Britain. Today he belongs to the new generation of composer-performers in Iran. He holds a doctoral degree in composition from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, and is now working as Assistant Professor in the Composition Department, University of Art, Tehran.
He is active in different genres of music, from classical performance on piano to world music and collaboration with artists such as Hossein Alizadeh and Massoud Shaari. His works include music for solo piano (Fourth Sonata, 2009), for large symphonic ensembles (Piano Concerto, 2003) or string orchestras (Concerto for Cello and String Orchestra, 2009) to improvisational genres (“All Of You” with Amir Eslami, 2010), vocal works (with Aida Shirazi, Tara Tiba, and Farzaneh Joorabchi), and arrangements or revisions of traditional music of the Middle East.
Hooshyar has won the “People’s Choice” prize for the “Best Album of The Year“ for “Tatari”, and his second album “Thousand Acacias” with “Hermes Records“ has been ranked as one of the five top best sellers of the company.
