Conditions of participation

The competition shall be open to the public, encouraging composers of all nations to take part.

To be submitted: A composition for Piano Trio (Piano, Violin and Violoncello). Submitting works accepted for a first performance, performed in public or awarded or published in whatever way is not admissible.

Length: 12-20 minutes

Latest date of submission: Entries to be postmarked not later than April 30th, 2011

The scores must be entered as eight anonymous copies in a separate envelop with a code name of your choice on it. All scores are to be marked clearly with the same code name.

In July 2011, the decision about the awarding of the prize will be taken in the framework of a jury meeting. Afterwards, the participants will be informed of the results. The official award ceremony will take place in the framework of the 8th International Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" in February 2012 in Graz.

Prize: € 5,000.-
The presidency of the competition shall leave it up to the jury to split the prize and to present the award for as many as three works.

In addition to the Cash Prize:

1. The award-winning composition will be incorporated in the repertoire of the 3rd round of category Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello of the 8th International Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" as compulsory piece of music. In case of a presentation of several prize-winning works it shall be left up to the participants to choose one of them.

2. The award-winning composition will be performed by a selected ensemble at Stefaniensaal of the Graz Convention Centre on the occasion of the concert of prize winners organized in the framework of the subscription cycle of the Gesellschaft der Freunde of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.*

3. Like all others before, also this 8th International Competition "Franz Schubert and Modern Music" will be recorded on the CD series "Klangdebüts" released by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. This CD will contain live recordings of the individual rounds and of the concert of prize winners and will present the prize-winning work performed by a selected ensemble of prize-winners.*

4. All compositions submitted will be named in the publications relevant to the competition and incorporated in the Library of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

5. All prize-winners will be invited to take part in the award ceremony. Travelling and hotel expenses shall be paid by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
