We have a winner!
Sehyung (Sergej) Kim has been announced winner of the Composition Competition for the category Duo for Voice and Piano (Lied), which took place for the first time in 2017. The prize winner is a student of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria.
„Den gelben Astern ein Lied“ (2017) („A Song for the Yellow Asters“) was chosen as the prize-winning composition and will be performed several times on occasion of the 10th International Competition „Franz Schubert and Modern Music“, which will take place in February 2018, 19-28. The composition will also be featured on the CD series „Klangdebüts“, released by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
In association with the International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” (FS&MM), contemporary compositions for piano trio were sought. The prime aim of this competition is to encourage the creation of new works in this chamber music genre.
The prizewinning work (Prize: 5.000 Euro) will be on the programme as a compulsory piece of music in the 2nd round (= semi finals) of the FS&MM, taking place in 2018 in the category “Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello”, i. e. it will be played by all ensembles in this round.
As with all previous editions, the FS&MM 2018 will be featured on the CD series “Klangdebüts”, released by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. This CD, containing live recordings of the competition, will also include the prizewinning composition, performed by a selected prizewinning ensemble.
